A partnership program with Gina Crist from Carolina K-9 Training allows SOS to meet the need of providing an In Home Companion or Service dog to those with developmental challenges. The goals for each placement includes: increasing safety, teaching independent living skills, improving social skills, confidence & self esteem, decreasing anxiety & difficult behaviors & providing calming sensory input.
Labrador & Golden Retrievers are primarily used with a team approach when placing an In Home Companion or Service dog for those individuals with developmental challenges. This team will include parents, but not limited to family members, educators &/or health care professionals that will assist in facilitating & employing our training methods.
Every placement is custom designed to meet the needs of each individual that we serve & depending upon the level of support needed while in public, we offer an In Home Companion or Service dog. The main difference between the two is that the In Home Companion Dog is not granted public access & the Service dog is, although they do receive much of the same training.
Depending upon the type of dog chosen, the average training time is from 1 – 1 1/2 years with the averages cost being $7,000 to $12,000. In order to better assist the families with fundraising efforts, SOS & Carolina K-9 Training can help to increase public awareness as well as assist with raising funds through individual donations, grants, fund raising events, public demonstrations & speeches to schools, businesses, & community organizations.
