Giving Tuesday

#GivingTuesday Oak Tree Farm

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

Celebrated on the Tuesday (November 28th) following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

SOS Health Care challenges you to check back on our social media pages on #GivingTuesday (November 28th) and donate towards our goal of $10,000 for our Oak Tree Farm housing community for adults with Autism and intellectual disabilities.

There are currently over 4,000 individuals with Autism and intellectual disabilities in Horry County alone. There is no plan for housing. They are often left to live with aging caregivers, in nursing homes, or in other ill-equipped situations. SOS Health Care has been working for the last year to begin to develop a solution to this crisis in our area. That solution is a safe and affordable housing community called Oak Tree Farm, which will be located on 10+ acres of land on Medlin Parkway in Conway. The community will consist of duplexes and apartment style homes. The community will feature a transitional living house, where SOS staff will be able to train individuals in functional living skills necessary to live independently. The community will also have a garden, pool, amenities center, access to transportation, social skills development opportunities, job coaching services and so much more. The property is expected to house about 100 individuals, as well as some, live in caretakers. Many adults with Autism and intellectual disabilities rely on SSDI of just over $700 a month, while others work entry-level, part-time jobs. The cost of living at Oak Tree Farm will be based on HUD low-income housing criteria so as to be affordable while providing a safe and supportive environment. SOS is reaching out to the community, applying for grant funding, and fundraising through events and donations like yours to make this community a reality.
